Obituary for Mary Ann Stemo

Mary Ann Stemo, 92, of Burlington, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Arbor View in Burlington.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 29, 1927, she was the daughter of Michael and Agnes (nee Winkiel) Danneker. Her early life was spent in Milwaukee where she attended Rufus King High School and attended community college studying business administration. On October 4, 1952 in Milwaukee, she was united in marriage to Roderick Stemo. Following marriage, they resided in both Chicago and Northbrook, Illinois and Lake Delton, Wisconsin before moving to Burlington, Wisconsin. She was a resident of Burlington for 15 years.

Mary Ann worked as a homemaker and was the owner and business manager, along with her husband, of Stemo Photography and The Swallow’s Nest Bed and Breakfast. She was also a member and devoted parishioner of St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Northbrook, St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells and St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington. She was president of St. Norbert’s Women’s Club for 3 years, a St. Norbert’s Golf and Bowling League member, Cub Scout den mother and North Shore Community Hospice volunteer for over 10 years. She was also a Red Cross volunteer during World War II, in which she was in charge of folding bandages.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Roderick Stemo; children, Michael (Dawn) Stemo, Brian (Denise) Stemo, Charmaine Ferris, Lyle (Ruth) Stemo and Lisa (Scott) Cattoni; and grandchildren, Lyle, Garrek, Dana, Cara, Gerald, Sarah, Nathan, John, Alyssa and Justin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Agnes Danneker and granddaughter Nyssa Stemo.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers and staff at Arbor View, Kindred (Burlington Healthcare), Community Care and Allay Hospice in Burlington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wisconsin Conservatory of Music www.wcmusic.org in the name of Clara Winkiel, a beloved aunt who overcame disabilities to become a music teacher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 11:00AM at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (108 McHenry St. Burlington, WI 53105). Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, November 12th from 10:00AM until 10:45AM in Good Shepherds Chapel at CHURCH. Mary Ann will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI.
