Age 91, was taken back into the arms of the Lord on August 11, 2012.He was born February 26, 1921 at St. Mary’s hospital, Racine to Bernard and Lenore (nee Worsley) Lavin of Kansasville. He spent his early life on the family farm (Established 1842), attending Kansasville Graded School. He went on to St. Mary’s High School, where he was on the boxing and basketball teams, and was a Drum Major of the marching band. Eugene also fought many bouts in the Golden Gloves as a boxer. Gene appreciated very much the natural world in all of its forms. He was a wonderful steward of the land. He loved to see his crops and animals grow and to observe wildlife whenever possible, both at Lakeside Homestead and in his travels. He especially enjoyed traveling to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, to Minocqua and Fish Creek or any historic site in between.

Eugene held other jobs while being a fulltime farmer. He was Kansasville Postmaster in the 1960’s. He was a firefighter at JI Case for many years. He built and operated apartment buildings in Kansasville. Gene had a beautiful personality and loved to visit with all of his many acquaintances whenever he would “run into them”. Story telling was a special gift of his and would have many a tale of his ancestors, his childhood and other experiences. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s, Dover, The Knights of Columbus, The Catholic Men’s Society, The Parish Council and he loved singing in the Choir. He was an enthusiastic local historian, whose wealth of knowledge is irreplaceable. His other interest included family history and the Civil War history.

Eugene will be deeply missed by his children: Genie (Dan) Bosch, Helen (Mario) Lena, Bernard (Harriet) Lavin, Greg Lavin, Mary (Mark) Flynn and Maureen Lavin, M.D., 16 grandchildren: Katie, Carrie, Marie, Joseph, Anthony, Helen Juliet, Skye, Thea, Shaina, Nathan, Matthew, Bridget, Molly, Helen, Hera, and Cora, and 10 great-grandchildren.
